The Presentation of Walkers are Welcome Status

We are a local group of volunteers and walking enthusiasts committed to promoting, sharing and developing our super walks in the Lower Ure Valley. We are part of Yore Vision, a local partnership organisation which is supported by Harrogate Borough Council and many others.  We are proud that we have been awarded Walkers are Welcome status, showing our area to be something special and joining the other walk friendly towns within the national Walkers are Welcome Towns network.   This website is designed to give you all the information you need to have a grand day out, or longer, in this attractive and historic destination, whether travelling by car or public transport.

Why visit our walks?

We have developed a series of way marked short and longer loop walks, suiting different interests and abilities, which have a fascinating historical focus.  See prehistoric standing stones, walk in the footsteps of the Romans, learn about Blind Jack the remarkable blind bridge builder, find out about WW2 bomber crash sites, or simply take a stroll along a river bank and enjoy Yorkshire nature at its best.  Come on down!   We are also located on two strategic walking routes: The Swale Way and Yore Dale Way, not to mention the fact that we are on a pivotal point on the ‘Way of the Roses’ cycle route that crosses the country through Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Walkers are Welcome Banner

Panel 003

A quilt/banner made of individual 30cms squares from each Walkers are Welcome town/village is being assembled. Each square will depict a scene or anything associated with the locality. The quilt will be an attractive feature that can be easily added to over time as new members join, and will provide a lasting memory of groups representing Walkers are Welcome towns/villages/islands throughout the country. It will be displayed at annual conferences and it is hoped that it will go on display within different member towns throughout the country.
Our banner has been kindly designed and made by the talented members of the Kirby Hill Knit & Natter Group, to whom the Walks Group owe a huge vote of thanks for giving their time and needlecraft skills.
